There are six popular operating systems available on the market-

Android- It is the most popular OS which is the finest in terms of price, features and choice of applications. You can find this operating system in almost every brand like micromax, HTC or Dell

Symbian- It is second largest operating system based on popularity and is also open source like android but majorly used by Nokia.

BlackBerry- This is the authorized operating system of RIM. It is in high demand by the enterprise customers as it supports office apps too.

Apple’s iOS –it is one of the most popular operating systems all over the world with advanced features.

Bada- this is the new operating system by Samsung for lower priced smartphones

Windows phone 7- it is the windows operating system with very few devices on the market.

Powerful processor:

Smartphones are designed for multitasking and for running multiple apps which can be done smoothly with a powerful processor. Nowadays most of the devices use android with a 600 MHZ processor consisting of quite a low clock speed.

Storage capacity:

The speed of the phone depends on how fast the ROM (read only memory) and RAM (random access memory) are accessed by the processor. These are the locations where all necessary files of the operating system are present. While opting for a Smartphone 256 MB of ROM and RAM of 512 MB is advisable.

Another factor to be considered is phone’s internal memory which is used to store more programme files.

Input mode

Usually, the display is the input device in most of the smartphones. There are two types of touchscreen:

  • Resistive
  • Capacitive

Opt for smartphones having capacitive technology as it has better screen resolution and accuracy in touch sensing.

Battery life:

Make sure that battery has a higher mAh for longer battery life. These days most Smartphones have 1000 mAh of batteries, it will be better you look for 1500 mAh if you are looking at a high end Smartphone.
