Now I'm sharing one of my most favorite software for Windows called Pokki. This is an app which I use every now and then. The app is so amazing and effective that every Windows user (no matter how he uses) should use this. Whether you're a normal user or a power horse/gamer on a professional – Pokki. This is certainly makes your Windows more comfortable and compatible. Windows taskbar was never so powerful which Pokki gives. Pokki is a free software for Windows 7 that adds information, services and features to the Windows taskbar. The developers have plans to add support for Vista and XP in a future version. Pokki is app based, which means that users install the main client and then the apps that they want to use. Apps include popular choices like Gmail, Facebook or eBay, but also apps that are more on the geeky side of things. This includes an awesome headlines app that is displaying RSS feed contents, a Google Search bar app to start a search on Google directly from the taskbar or a file uploader. As more and more utilities are being moved to the cloud, it is become imperative to integrate cloud based services within the desktop environment of operating systems. For starters, how about pinning web apps to the Windows 7 taskbar? Pokki is an application built on the Chromium framework, which enables developers to build web applications which can be pinned and executed from the Windows taskbar. These web apps not just automatically pin to the taskbar, but also provide notifications for unread items. The currently available web apps which can be integrated with your taskbar include apps for Gmail, Tweeki (for Twitter), Facebook, Headlines (RSS Feed Reader), LivingSocial, Groupie, Wall Street Journal, and eBay. Pokki is not just for common users but also an opportunity for developers to develop web apps and get wider exposure by using the Pokki platform. Join us after the break.

You install Pokki by selecting one of the featured applications from the Pokki website. This installs the application and the main client on the operating system. The icons are placed directly between the start menu button and the first icons of the taskbar. This takes some getting used to time as it moves all the icons to the right (I have several tabs pinned on the taskbar).

Individual applications are then launched with a single click on their icon. The interface opens up fluently. The headlines app for instance displays a selection of default and custom RSS feeds in its interface. Options are provided to add custom RSS feed links to the application which are then displayed on the left side. Options are then available to display news from all RSS feeds in chronological order or news from one specific RSS feed.

Information like the unread email or news count are displayed on the icons if applicable. A total of 21 different applications can be installed right now. Instructions are provided on the program website on how to build custom applications using HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript.

Pokki’s concept is rather unique and interesting. The developers need to push out new applications to increase the reach of their application. That, and support for Vista and XP seem to be the two important things that need to be addressed. The apps could use tooltips that describe what they do as well. Read more about Pokki.

  1. It works amazingly… I solely would like I may facilitate improve it (I have suggestions). OK what concerning caching the HTML5 “pages” like during a browser. That way, memory is freed up. And be ready to fully shut apps, run over one at a time, etc.

  2. This app magically appeared on my laptop the opposite day, therefore I removed it as a result of it's malware. I had never heard of it, didn't install it myself. I assume it came piggyback on a game trial. It’s gone. I don’t care how wunnerful it's, if it's to sneak onto my laptop, it’s crap
