To get started with NetSpeedMonitor, download and install the package. After installation you will be asked whether you want to see NetSpeedMonitor from Taskbar or not. Yes to continue.
Then you will be asked to configure your Network Interface to track traffic, interface language and others from the next window. Select your current Network Driver from here and then click Save.
The user interface of NetSpeedMonitor is beautifully organized and perfectly combined for usability. You will get real time uploading and downloading speed monitoring on the taskbar. You will also get more info about Sent and Received data sorted by Month, Today and Session when you hover your mouse on the taskbar.
If you want to pause the monitoring, simply double-click on the application interface on taskbar or right click on the taskbar and select Monitoring Off. To resume monitoring, double-click again on the taskbar interface or select Monitoring On from right click. You can also access to Data Traffic, Connections and Configuration from the right-click menu.
Besides the main function of monitoring, the software also stores all the data to compare seen later. Those stored information can be accessed from the Data Traffic. There you can see a list containing the amount of sent and received information on a daily or monthly for each network interface. These data can be imported and exported through the options Import Wizard and Export Wizard, located in the Data Traffic>Database.
Another tool interesting and useful tool of NetSpeedMonitor is the Connections, which shows a list of all connections made by different services and processes since the program started. Here you will get list of all connected processes along with process ID and status.
If the program insists on showing null values for your connection, you may be using the wrong Network Interface to get information. To check this, go to NetSpeedMonitor context menu by clicking the right mouse button and choose Configuration. Click on the list of Network Interface and change for each of the available connections, to find out which one is the correct interface if you are not sure.
Through the Configuration, you can edit a number of features to customize the software to your liking. It is divided into five main tabs:
- General: Change which is the source of the connection and how the information will be displayed.
- Layout: Changes the overall look of the program, such as text font and positioning.
- Database: Allows you to choose where the files are saved in Traffic Data.
- Tooltip: Change the type of information shown while hovering the mouse over the NetSpeedMonitor.
- Advanced: Reset the settings of the application to its original form.
Since it is easy to make mistakes configuring this software, if unwanted change has been made, remember to use the Reset feature from the Advanced tab whenever necessary.
Even being a little hard to deal with the application, NetSpeedMonitor is a classic software that you should have in your PC. If you are interested in monitoring your downloads and uploads, the software is a great choice, just do not expect to make much more than that.
