This happens when the OS divides a single file in many segments and then stores them in different places which increasing file reading delay. To avoid this accumulation, it is recommended that you should defrag your HD frequent. To make this job easier and faster then the Windows’ default defragmenter tools, there are some Third-Party tool available on the internet. One such tool is called WinUtilities Free Disk Defragmenter, an efficient and reliable software which ensures a thorough defragmentation. So it helps users to prevent crashes and slowdowns of the operating system, which also extends to other programs installed on your computer.
To get started with WinUtilities Free Disk Defragmenter, download the package and then install it. Once installed, open it to start defragmenting. On the main window, it will show a list containing all drives available on your system. Just mark those your want to defragment and then click on Defrag.
WinUtilities Free Disk Defragmenter will then automatically analyzes the drive and then defragment files. This will take sometimes depending on the drive size and fragmentation status. If your drive is 50GB with low (or Zero) fragmentation, the process will finish in approximately 2 minutes. Once done, it will show an in-depth report of the process.
Before starting the defragmentation, you can configure the defragmentation method from Options. On the Action, there are 11 different options for in depth analysis and defragmentation. This list includes Analyze only, do not defragment and do not optimize (This will just analyze the status of drive, will not defragment or optimize), Analyze and defragment, do not optimize (This will just analyze the status of drive and the perform simple defragmentation, will not optimize ), Analyze, defragment and fast optimize [recommended] (This will analyze the drive and then perform a defragmentation and fast optimization), Analyze, defragment and full optimization [Deprecated] (This will analyze the drive and then perform a defragmentation and complete optimization). WinUtilities Free Disk Defragmenter is a good alternate free defragmenter tool for Windows. It works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and we also tested it successfully under Windows 8 Consumer Preview.
