What is the best selling phone model in the world today? Leaving the past behind, the first names that come to mind today are Samsung Galaxy S3 and Apple iPhone 5. Both devices vying for market leadership today, but you would be surprised to know they would hardly come up on the list of world’s best selling phones of all time. In the '90s and the first decade of the 21st century, Nokia was the company that captured the biggest amount of mobile phone consumers. The company is the manufacturer for the most of bestsellers released to date and, even with the higher volume of sales today, yet the sales leaders in the world need to do much to achieving similar numbers.

15: Nokia 3100/3120 (50 million)
Launched in 2003, the Nokia 3100 had display with a resolution of 128x128 pixels and is compatible with 4096 colors. With the internal memory of only 350 KB, was more than enough to access functions such as managing ringtones, Java games, phonebook and calendar. Sold 50 million units worldwide.
14: iPhone 5 (54 million)
The latest handsets of this list, the iPhone 5 should probably achieve a better sales amount than its predecessor, but in terms of amount of sales, it is unlikely that it will reach the very top although it should cross the amount of sale of iPhone 4S soon. The good performance of Apple's smartphone is also constantly threatened by Samsung's Galaxy line. So far sold 54 million units.
13: Motorola C139/C200 (60 million)
Launched in July 2005, the model of Motorola has been for many years a cheap alternative for consumers who were not willing to pay for a smartphone. The model had TFT screen and had resolution of 96x64 pixels. Weighing only 85 grams, the device had limited resources like calculator, currency converter, alarm and calendar. Sold 60 million units worldwide.
12: Motorola Star TAC (60 million)
Motorola sold a lot of phones at a time when few people could have the ability to buy a mobile phone. Motorola, with its classic Star TAC dictated trend, almost being responsible for flip phones on the market. The model, which was released in 1996, was inspired by the communicators of the series "Star Trek" - including, this would be the name of the product, but there was no agreement with Paramount. Sold 60 million units worldwide.
11: Nokia 5130/5220/5310 (65 million)
Announced in November 2008, 5130/5220/5310 cell line were one of the great successes of Nokia's sales. 9: Nokia 6010/6020/6030 (75 million)
Launched in 2004, the models of the Nokia 6000 series (6010/6020/6030) supported SMS sending and included a client for ICQ conversations. The devices have become quite popular in the United States. The display had resolution of 96x65 pixels and 1,100 mAh battery. Sold 75 million units worldwide.
8: Nokia 1208/1209 (100 million)
Another Nokia model to be successful in this list is the 1208. Launched in the second half of 2007, the unit had 1.5-inch display, with screen resolution of 96x68 pixels. The memory was only 4 MB, and the unit weighed 77 grams. Great seller, the product has reached the milestone of 100 million units sold worldwide.
7: Nokia 3310 (126 million)
One of the handsets most revered by fans of technology, the Nokia 3310 is still considered by many as one of the toughest models launched yet. The 3310, which had several variations such as 3315, 3320, 3330, 3350, 3360, 3390 and 3395, was released in 2000 and had a monochrome screen with resolution 84x48 pixels. Sold 126 million units worldwide.
6: Nokia 1600/1650/1661 (130 millions)
Available on the market in 2005, the Nokia 1600 was part of the 1000 series and was facing consumers who were looking for a simpler model for use of prepaid plans. The display resolution was only 96x68 pixels, and full color display was just over 65,000. 130 million units sold worldwide.
5: Motorola RAZR V3 (130 million)
Although there is disagreement in several sources, the estimate is that the Motorola RAZR V3 has sold at least 130 million units. This impressive amount puts the model as the most successful company's sales in its entire history. The device has won several updates and variations, keeping the name for the third generation equipment. It was released in 2004 and is considered revolutionary in terms of design.
4: Nokia 2600/2610/2626/2630 (130 millions)
Launched in 2004, the 2000 line had also focused on the low-cost handsets, facing the audience who acquired prepaid plans. Weight of this device was only 96 grams, the model had screen resolution of 128x128 pixels, polyphonic ringtones, games and simple tools. 130 million units sold worldwide.
3: Nokia 1200 (150 million)
The bronze medal for our list goes to of the 1200 model, yet from Nokia. Launched in May 2007, the model allowed the registration of only 200 names in your phonebook. The internal memory of 4 MB, there seemed to be a problem. The device is also compatible with three games and, although we are in the era of smartphones, if you search, you can find this model in stores still. Sold 150 million units worldwide.
2: Nokia 1110 (150 million)
The runner-up of sales is also an old acquaintance of the Nokia. Launched in 2006, became one of the most popular of all time. The Nokia 1110 only weighed 80 grams and had a monochrome display. Considered the "cell" input of many people, the model has sold 150 million units worldwide.
1: Nokia 3120 (160 million)
And the big winner of all time is ... The Nokia 3120! There is great controversy regarding the final number of handsets sold, and some sources even speculate 250 million units. However, 160 million seems a more realistic figure and still enough to put Nokia in the top rankings.
The 3120 model, launched in 2004, is technically identical to the Nokia 3100. The unit had three Java games: Snake EX2, Beach Rally and Bowling. In addition to sending and receiving SMS, the model had world clock. And nothing more. Its simplicity and low price were enough to put him as the best selling phone of all time.
Just out of curiosity: two of the most popular smartphones today may possibly appear in future lists. The Samsung Galaxy S2 has sold 46 million units while the Galaxy S3 in a shorter time, has sold 40 million handsets. Nokia holds their top position and it is likely to stay the same for at least next few years.
