From the evolution of Windows XP, system restore is being helping users to restore their Windows system after a major crash or if the system performance is running low. At first (On Windows XP), just creates snapshots based on the overwritten system files. It wasn't though as advanced as it is now on Windows 7, yet it was one of the greatest feature from then. Today I'm going to show you how to create a system restore point and then get your system back after an accident. It is not so hard as you might think but in order to make the process safe and to ensure that you are not facing any problem – you should read this guide.

There are so many reasons you should have a clean backup of your system. If you are a power computer user who tries and flashes a lot of software regularly, then no matter how well you are taking care of your PC, oneday you will see that you system isn’t booting or something like that. A system restore point will help then. It will free you from the boring process to install your system again and then installing all the softwares you need.

To Create A Restore Point

Hit start and then enter “Create a restore point” on the search. The Open “Create a restore point” program.

A window like the following image will appear.

Click on Create button to create a restore point immediately.

Then a pop-up will appear asking you to put a name for this restore point. Just enter a name (I prefer using date as name. It helps me to understand about it.). Then click on Create.

It will now start creating a system restore point.

This process might take up to 5 mins (or even more) to complete. Once you have finished it, an alert box will appear.

Configuring Default Settings

To configure defaults, just click on configure (highlight the drive you want to configure).

Now, from here, you can change the default setting for that drive. To disable System Protection, click on “Turn off system protection” option.

If you want to adjust the maximum disk usage by the restore service, just change the “Max Usage” and then click on “Apply > OK”

To delete all previous restore points, just hit on delete. From the new confirmation window, click on Continue.

To Restore From A Point

Hit start again and this time search for “System Restore”. Open up “System Restore” program.

Now the restore service will start. If you don’t have any recommended restore point (determined by your system) then you will be displayed a screen like below. Click Next from here to proceed.

If you already have a recommended restore point, you will see two options. Click on “Recommended restore” for easy restore. Alternately, select “Choose a different restore point” to follow more.

Now you will see a list of all available restore points. You will see the “Date and Time” of the points (when the point was created), “Description” (name) and “Type” (Automatic or manual). Select one and then click next to start restoring.

To get more point for restore, select the “Show more restore points” option.

If you want to check for affected programs (to check for maximum safety), click on “Scan for affected programs.

It will now scan for it and then show results.

System restore is obviously a great way to make you computing safe and sound. I will recommend to keep this update with you.
