Because of the replacement of traditional Start Menu with the new Metro UI environment, the way to turn off Windows 8 has been changed. Even if you have use Windows 8 Developer Preview previously, yet you will find it quite hard to find Shut Down/Restart options. So today I decided to go through a quick tutorial about how to Shut Down or Restart PC in Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Although I will only show one method here, but believe me, there’s more other ways to do so. Explore the Preview version to find out which suits you most.

To turn off Windows 8, you have to open the Charms Bar (Code Name of the bar that opens on the right corner of the screen and from which you can access different areas of the system) by simply taking you mouse cursor to the bottom-right corner of you desktop or swiping your fingers from left if using a tablet. Then click on Settings from the Charms Bar.

Then click Power and you will see options to Shut Down, Restart or Sleep in the pop up menu.

Click on any one of them to perform related actions. The Log Off and Lock options can be accessed by click on the User Name from the Metro Start UI.

As of first impression, it seems quite harder to operate Windows 8 from a Desktop PC which is way more different then a touch-enabled Tablet PC, yet Windows 8 have things to satisfy you. Stay tuned and Contact/Comment for any problem regarding Windows 8.
