Android Rapid Snap : Plan B Allows To Install And Locate Android Device After Losing It

Guess you have lost your beloved Android device (of may be it got stolen) and you don’t have any Anti-Theft app installed on your phone. So what you can do to get your phone back? Now here comes the “Plan B’s” time. It will allow you to install the app in your phone after it is lost (or got stolen). Isn’t it amazing? Plan B comes from Android application developer Lookout’s lab. Plan B is the 'find my phone' app that you download and install after you lose your phone. Plan B is your last resort to find your missing phone. The first fruit of Lookout Labs' labor is a brilliantly simple yet very useful app called Plan B. Plan B was only made possible recently, after the release of the official Android web Market. The app is designed to be the last resort for finding a lost (or maybe even stolen - more on that later) phone and getting its latest position emailed to the account associated with the Android Market. It is only useful if for some reason you forgot to install Lookout, Theft Aware, WaveSecure, or any other tracking apps (you do have at least one installed, right? Right?!), because otherwise, you know, you would just use them instead.

Having a ‘plan B’ up your sleeve for most instances in life is not a bad idea. And when it comes to securing your beloved Android phone, you better have one. While reviewing a couple of phone security/locating apps such as TekTrak and Remote Ringer over the last week, we found that both demanded a configuration of some sort on your device to work effectively. But what if you somehow lose your mobile without any security app installed on it? There’s no need to panic because now we have Plan B – a free phone locating app for Android that, once installed, is activated automatically and immediately starts sending geographic coordinates of your device on the associated mail account. Effectively, the app is your last-ditch effort to save your Android phone.

How To Use

1. Install Plan B to the phone that you are trying to find from the Android Market.
2. Plan B will start automatically and send your phone’s location to your Gmail address.
3. To locate again after 10 minutes, borrow a friend’s phone and text the word “locate” to your lost phone.

Using Plan B is simple, but requires access to the Android Market website and your Google account. (If you have an Android phone, you already have a Google account.)

After you install it, Plan B will start locating your phone using cell towers and GPS. On some phones, Plan B can switch GPS on automatically. Your location will keep updating for 10 minutes, and you will get an email each time it is located, whether the phone is moving or standing still. You can start the process again by texting “locate” to your number from any other phone. In order to locate your phone, you will get a text via SMS, so standard message rates apply.
