Let’s Change The Metro Background Color In Windows 8 (10)

It’s already been said thousand times that the most interesting update on Windows 8 is the metro start screen. On default, the background color of the latest metro screen is Green. Not just the metro start menu’s background but also other elements like Settings. Search, Log On menu, Share and more others are also staying with green. There is no official option for changing this color by Microsoft. So if you want to change this color scheme, you need to tweak it manually. But you need to do it only in this developer preview version as it’s been confirmed that the final release of Windows 8 will have an in-built option to change background color of Metro UI elements. So let’s learn how to do it.

Let’s Change The Metro Background Color In Windows 8 (10)

Note: In this tutorial, we will show you how to change color scheme in 32-Bit. If you are using a 64-Bit pc, just download the manual from the last of the post. If it seems not works perfectly, we will show you how to turn the changes back. And also the final output won’t be like the image if you are using 32-Bit.

1st download the Tiles Series Purple file from the link below and then unzip it. Then open the 32-Bit folder. Now right click on Takeownership.bat file and run it as administrator.

Now navigate to “C:\Windows\System32” and find the shsxs.dll and uxtheme.dll files from that folder. Rename them to shsxs.dll.old and uxtheme.dll.old and save them there.

Now restart your pc. You will get purple color instead of dark green.

To revert those changes back, again run the Takeownership.bat file as administrator and then rename shsxs.dll and uxtheme.dll files from “C:\Windows\System32” to shsxs.dll.xx and uxtheme.dll.xx (you will be able to delete them later). Then rename shsxs.dll.old and uxtheme.dll.old files to shsxs.dll and uxtheme.dll. Now reboot your system again. You will be back to default.

To change the green color to your favorite one, download and follow the instructions from the manual.
