Nowadays Internet is an integral part of everyday life for most people as it is now the biggest source of data and information for everyone and from anywhere. Thousands of individuals accessing to a lots of web pages every day for different personal or official reason or to exchange messages with friends and family. However, you do not always have complete freedom to surf over the infinite land of WEB. In some universities, schools and businesses, access to the internet tends to be slightly narrower. In addition, there are many countries with strong censorship of content, allowing only certain types of pages can be viewed by its residents. There are also situations in which some sites do not offer their content to users from certain countries (e.g. Hulu, Greencine only available for USA). In such cases, if you want to have blocked access to the material, you need to use a proxy (or you can buy a VPN service). Proxy can also be used even in business environment to increase internet safety. Also, some people use it for privacy - to make anonymous requests. Although there are many programs (Paid-mostly) to proxify your computer, you can also configure it in your browser individually. We are today going to show you how to change proxy manually in Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera and at last, Apple Safari. Here we used Windows 7 OS but the procedure remains almost same as in Mac OS and Linux OS too. Follow after the break.

Note: Incorrectly configuring Internet Settings may resist you from accessing to Internet. If you use expired or wrong Proxy settings, you will also not be able to access to Internet.

All IP Addresses and Ports used it this tutorial is generated through random characters, so using them will not help you.

Google Chrome

Google Chrome uses the same connection settings adopted from your computer’s default settings. That is you cannot change Google Chrome’s proxy without changing system proxy. If you want to make the change from the Google browser, click the Tools and select Options.

Then move to Under The Hood from the sidebar and click on Change proxy settings under Network.

Now from the Connections tab, click on LAN Settings.

Here, you can proceed in two ways. Firstly, you can mark the Use a proxy server for your LAN box then put the IP address of the proxy in Address field and enter port identification in the Port field.

Or you can click Advanced and make these settings in the new window. If you choose this, make sure that you have selected Use the same proxy server for all protocols. Click OK to confirm once you are done.

You will be able to change Google Chrome’s proxy via this method.

Mozilla Firefox

It is easy to change the proxy manually in Firefox. To begin, click the Firefox button (On the left-top corner of Firefox) and then click on Options > Options.

Firefox’s preference window will open then. Go to the Advanced tab from the navigation bar then select Network and finally click on Settings under Connection.

Anew window calling Connection Settings of Firefox will open. First select Manual proxy configuration option and then put the IP address of the proxy in Address field and enter port identification in the Port field. Then select the Use this proxy server for all protocols option. Once done, click on OK.

That's it! Your Firefox browser’s proxy has been changed. Now just use the browser normally.

Internet Explorer

Changing proxy for Google Chrome will automatically change proxy for Internet Explorer too because both of them use your computer’s connection setting. But if you want to check it out again then click on the Tools from menu bar (First hit Alt key from keyboard if menu bar isn’t visible) and choose the Internet Options.

Now move to the Connections tab and click on LAN Settings.

Opera For PC

If you want to change proxy for your Opera web browser then click on the Opera icon (From the left-top corner) and then move to Settings > Preference (Or simply use Ctrl + F12 shortcut).

Now move to the Advanced tab from the top bar and then Network from the sidebar. Click on Proxy Servers from here.

Now select Use Manual Proxy Configuration and then check HTTP under Protocol. Now put the IP address of the proxy under Proxy Server field and enter port identification under the Port field. Make sure to mark Use this proxy for all protocol option. Click OK once done.

Now you have change proxy only for your Opera browser.

Apple Safari

Just like Google Chrome and Internet Explorer, Apple Safari also uses the same network setting of your system. So if you have changed proxy settings for Google Chrome or Internet Explorer, then you need not to do it again for Apple Safari. Let me just show you how to access to the network settings from here. First click on the Setting Icon from the very right side of your browser and then click on Preferences.

Now move to the Advanced tab and click on Change Settings right beside Proxies.

Now the Internet Properties window will open. Change the proxy from here just like in Google Chrome or Internet Explorer. Apple Safari’s proxy will be changed.
